Program Overview:

  • Name: Wheels Up XCG Training Club
  • Target Age Group: 10 to 16 years old (Limited Spaces: 10-12 riders)
  • Focus: Building stamina, endurance, and mountain bike skills in the Cross-Country Mountain Biking (XC) and Gravel (G) categories of cycling.
  • Objective: To provide a structured training program focusing on fitness and skill development in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Ideal for riders looking to enhance their abilities without the pressure of sanctioned races. Many riders use this program to prepare for UFD, NICA, and Region Gravel Races of the 2025 season.
  • MTB bikes are needed for this program. Gravel Specific bikes can be used for certain practices if you have one! 
  • Race Events: The XCG Training Club will not have any team supported races. Riders are welcome to race for other teams. Club Members choosing to race in XCG Club Gear will receive additional WU compensation per event they wear in race and or on race podiums!    
  • New Rider Evaluations:
    • February 2nd – Good News Brewery in Defiance, 2 -4:30 PM (Make up date of Feb 9th)

Program Schedule & Structure:

  • Season Duration: March 3rd – June 30th
  • Practice Frequency: Every Monday and the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month
  • Locations: Rotating between local trails to offer varied terrain, technical challenges, and fitness-building opportunities. Unique experience for youth riders looking to advance their cycling conditioning and know how. 
  • Communication: TeamSnap will have all practice and special event information. 
  • Cost: $475 Per Rider. $135 Training Club Deposit and 4 monthly payments of $85
    • Practice Tech tee included – Race Jersey optional purchase. 

Training Focus Areas:

  1. Endurance Conditioning & Stamina Building
    • Longer rides to develop cardiovascular endurance and mental resilience
    • Group-paced rides with increased mileage as the program progresses
  2. Technical On-Trail Skills Development
    • Sessions focused on handling challenging and technical trails
    • Skill drills for maneuvering around obstacles, maintaining control on rough terrain, and mastering efficient climbing and descending techniques.
  3. Fitness Training
    • High-intensity interval sessions to build speed and strength
    • Cross-training (off-the-bike workouts to enhance core strength, flexibility, and overall conditioning)
  4. Trail Knowledge & Safety
    • Training on reading trails and planning efficient lines.
    • Safety practices, including group riding etiquette and handling unexpected trail obstacles.
  5. Team-Building & Mentorship
    • Emphasis on supporting one another as riders progress!
    • Program embraces Returning Riders to help mentor new or less experienced riders to foster growth and Training Club camaraderie!
